Organizers of the Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series slated for Aug. 15-22 here still need a few good homes for visiting players.

Jenny Rogers, who is coordinating host homes, said she needs four more hosts in Andalusia and two in Opp to house two boys each.

In a couple of weeks, nine teams of 15 to 18 players each will arrive in Andalusia for the World Series event. Rogers said she has worked since January to organize host homes, working to get enough homes in a neighborhood for all team members to be near each other.

That makes it easier for those transporting players, she said.

“They will arrive August 13, and possibly would not leave until the 22nd,” she said. “There is a different church in town providing a noon meal each day.”

Additionally, Sister Schubert’s has donated breakfast rolls for each host home, and breakfast coupons will be available from a number of local restaurants which serve morning meals. Host families will be responsible for evening meals.

“It’s a pool-play type tournament,” she said. “Some could be leaving by Monday night or Tuesday morning. Sometimes the teams leave, sometimes they stay, depending upon how far away from home they are.”

Several churches have loaned vans to make transportation easier, she said.

There are 58 homes already committed to host players, she said.
