Vincent McNearor and Jarrett Goodson, both Red Level High School graduates, spent Thursday morning doing a physical training test at Robinson Park. The two will soon depart for U.S. Army basic training. Here, Staff Sgt. Carnley times the young men during their one-mile run around the park. Each man said he joined the Army to follow in his father’s footsteps.

“My dad was Airborne,” McNearor said. “He told me that every good young man should do at least three years service. I’m almost 20, so it’s time I started.”

Each said he plans to make the military a career.
