Kimberly Jacobs, an administrative assistant for the City of Andalusia who is coordinating the program, said two more merchants – Ireland Trailer and Barrow’s Furniture – committed to participate on Wednesday, bringing the total to 20.

Participating merchants each are contributing $50 per month to the Andy Bucks campaign. When it begins on Sept. 1, shoppers will receive a numbered ticket for every $10 they spend with participants.

At the first council meeting of each month a winning number will be drawn. The person holding that ticket will have 30 days to claim $1,000 in “Andy Bucks,” or ten $100 gift certificates redeemable with participating merchants.

Other participants include Beef O’Brady’s, Brooks Hardware, Darby’s, David’s Catfish, Delta Lighting, Farmer’s Co-Op, Harold’s Furniture, Lee’s Samauri, Mary Kay Consultants, Pale Moon Yarns, Two Guys Pies, Walker Business, Ward & Co., Christopher’s, Ansley Place, Yo’ Cravin and Singer’s.

Mayor Earl Johnson expressed his appreciation to those merchants who have stepped up to support the local shopping campaign.

“This has the potential to really draw people to our community,” Johnson said. “These merchants have shown they are committed to promoting not only their businesses, but also our community. I really appreciate that.”
