Post Office has limited duck hunting stamps

Attention duck hunters – now is the time to get federal duck stamps before the post office runs out, said Andalusia Postmaster Mike Kolmetz Monday.

“This is not a stamp that you use to mail a letter,” Kolmetz said. “This is the stamp that all hunters over the age of 16 need if you plan to hunt migratory ducks – or if you plan to be like the folks on Duck Dynasty.”

The stamps are $15 each and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“You have to have this stamp to hunt ducks,” Kolmetz said. “We ran out of stamps last year because everyone waited to buy one. I will do a second order if the demand is there, but hunters need to come in now and get them.”

Federal Duck Stamps are vital tools for wetland conservation, as 98-cents out of every dollar generated by the sale of Federal Duck Stamps goes directly to purchase or lease wetland habitat for protection in the National Wildlife Refuge System. The Federal Duck Stamp has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated and is a highly effective way to conserve America’s natural resources.

Besides serving as a hunting license and a conservation tool, a current Federal Duck Stamp also serves as an entrance pass for national wildlife refuges where admission is charged. It peels off and attaches to one’s regular hunting license.

In addition to being available at the Andalusia Post Office, the stamps are also available at the Opp and Florala post offices, or online at www.store.usps.com/store/.
