County may allow homeowners to charge taxes

One may soon be able to pay for pistol permits and ad valorem taxes using a credit/debit card.
Commissioners voted Wednesday to begin exploring how to bring the benefit to residents using county services. Currently, the probate office is the only county office that accepts cards as payment.
In the future, commissioners will have to decide if the county general fund will absorb any fees associated with the service or if they will pass that cost on to the resident. There is no fee to the resident when using a credit/debit card at the probate office. Probate Judge Ben Bowden said he does not want to see that policy change for his office; however, Chairman Bill Godwin said he wants to do what’s fair for all county residents.
