There are 70 students who are slated to move into Saints Hall, the new student housing complex adjacent to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, this weekend.

But even as a group assembled for a ribbon cutting at the new facility Friday afternoon, developer Kent Campbell of Cubed LLC received an electronic application for housing.

“We could be up to 80 by the weekend,” he predicted.

The two-structure project will house up to 96 students in 24, four-bedroom apartments. Cubed LLC partnered with the LBW Community College Foundation for the project.

Before cutting the ribbon Friday afternoon, LBWCC president Dr. Herb Riedel said the project came in ahead of schedule and under budget. It was expected to cost $3 million.

The apartments are $1,800 per person per semester, which includes furniture, utilities, Internet access, and cable TV. A two-semester lease is required.

A storm shelter was erected between the two buildings.
