Lady Bobcats aim for better season

Opp’s Lady Bobcats have been working hard all summer to get ready for what they’re hoping will be a better season in 2013.
The Lady Bobcats made it all the way to the South Super Regional, falling in the second round to Cottage Hill Christian Academy.
OHS head volleyball coach Christie Spurlin said the girls want to advance farther this year.
“That’s our goal,” Spurlin said.
Loaded with six seniors in Caiden Harrell, Alex Ann Ballard, Olivia Jones, Olivia Bradley, Morgan Simmons and Laiken Free, the Lady Bobcats will compete in Class 3A, Area 2 again with Straughn and Excel.
On the schedule, the Lady Bobcats added Elba to a similar-looking line up as last year.
As far as the team is concerned, Spurlin said a libero hasn’t been chosen, yet.
The Lady Bobcats will be in a 5-1 formation, which has one main setter who plays all the way around.
“I have good hitters,” Spurlin said. “They’re all good hitters and passers. I can’t really ask for anything better.”
Spurlin said a big strength this year for OHS will be its serving.
OHS will get its season under way on Thursday at home against Andalusia. The junior high team starts at 4 p.m., followed by the junior varsity and varsity squads.
