2013 homecoming events this week at Andy, Straughn

While it may seem too early, the fact remains that homecoming for Andalusia and Straughn will be Friday. As usual, there are a host of activities planned throughout the week, with parades set at each school next Friday afternoon.
On the gridiron, Andalusia will take on Hillcrest-Evergreen, and students will show their school pride throughout the week with dress up days. Here’s the schedule for high school students:
• Monday: Send the Jags back in time – dress in clothes from any decade;
• Tuesday: Blind the Jags – neon colors and sunglasses;
• Wednesday: Rock the Jags – rocker day;
• Thursday: Put the Jags to sleep – pajama day;
• Friday: Dress for success.
On the day of homecoming, the day will begin with an 8:30 a.m. alumni breakfast. In the 9 a.m. homecoming assembly, classes ending in the No. 4 will be honored and the crowd will be entertained with skits from this year’s classes. The homecoming court will also be announced
School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m., and the parade will begin at 2 p.m. Game time homecoming festivities will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
This year, the Straughn Tigers will take on Southside Selma Panthers and the level of excitement in the community was building before school dismissed Friday, especially when this year’s court was announced as follows: Molly Stewart and Loni Blatz, freshmen attendants; Brentley Armstrong and Carolina Fussell, sophomore attendants; Emily Wood and Brandi Butler, junior attendants; Kristen Davis and Emily Hammett, senior attendants; Katie Lindsey, senior maid; and Jordan Wood, queen.
This year’s dress up schedule is as follows:
• Monday: Superheroes;
• Tuesday: Nerd day;
• Wednesday: Wacky tacky day;
• Thursday: Hillbilly day; and,
• Friday: Black and gold day.
Friday’s tentative schedule for Straughn is:
• 8:42 a.m. until 11 a.m.: recognition of alumni and homecoming competitions in the gym;
• 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.: Alumni reception in the SHS media center;
• 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m.: Sack lunch;
• 11:45 a.m.: Floats should be lined up at the front drive.
• Noon: Parade begins at SHS and ends at the football field;
• 12:45 p.m.: Pep rally at the stadium.
• 1:20 p.m.: Buses load;
• 6:30 p.m.: Crowning of the queen and presentation of the court.
• 7 p.m.: Kickoff.
