The Andalusia Board of Education Monday night approved a $14.6 million budget for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2014, representing a 5 percent increase in expenditures over the current year.
The budget is largely funded from the $9.2 million state allocation, which represents 63.13 percent of the funding. Twenty-five percent of the budget, or $3.6 million, is funded from local ad valorem and sales taxes.
The bulk of the expenditures, $8.4 million or 57.61 percent, is for instructional services, including teachers salaries and benefits, instructional supplies and textbooks.
Budget figures show that the city school system employs 110.5 teachers, five of whom are paid from local funds. 100.61 teachers are paid from state funds and five are paid from federal funds. The city system has a total of 186 employees.
