AHS girls sweep

Andalusia beat Wilcox Central 3-0 in area volleyball action Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs, who now wear yellow ribbons during home matches for Megan Kelley, an AHS student who is battling a form of cancer called Ewings Sarcoma, won 25-2, 25-2, 25-4 in a match that lasted just under 45 minutes.

AHS was led by Alexis Lawrence who had nine aces; Rachel Dayton had eight aces; and Merikal McCaskill had seven aces.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 3-1 in Class 4A, Area 2 action.

Andalusia’s final area contest is Tues., Oct. 1, at Monroe County.

MCHS defeated Andalusia 3-0 in earlier area action this season.

Andalusia visits T.R. Miller tomorrow at 4 p.m.

In middle school action, the Lady Bulldogs played a good match against Baker, Fla., but fell 2-1.

AMS trailed by six in the first set, came back to tie it at 24-all and went on to win the opener 27-25.

Baker regrouped and won the second set 25-15, and then the tiebreaker 15-6.

In other action Tuesday, Opp swept a pesky New Brockton 3-0 in regular season action.

The Lady Bobcats won 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.

OHS improves to 13-2 on the season with the win over NBHS.

Opp hosts Zion Chapel on Thursday.

Scores from Red Level and Pleasant Home’s matches against Luverne and Elba, respectively, weren’t available when The Star-News went to press last night.
