Andalusia and Straughn moved up in the Alabama Sports Writers Association football poll, which was released today.

The Bulldogs (5-0) beat rival Opp 43-26 last week, and were bumped up to No. 6 from 9 in Class 4A. The Tigers (4-1) defeated a physical Elba 34-8 and garnered the No. 5 spot in Class 3A.

Andalusia and Straughn have key region contests this week.

AHS visits Clarke County, while Straughn hosts un-ranked but good Bayside Academy.

After trailing 20-12 at halftime, the Bulldogs scored 31 unanswered points in the second half — 18 of which came in the third quarter — after OHS didn’t get off to a good start by giving up turnovers on its first two possessions to start the half.

Bulldogs’ senior quarterback Michael McCalman accounted for four touchdowns — three rushing and one passing — in the win.

SHS was led by junior quarterback Rollin Kinsaul, who threw two touchdowns and rushed for a score.

Kinsaul is currently a finalist for WSFA’s Fever Star Athlete of the Week.

The winner will be announced tomorrow during the 6 p.m. broadcast.
