5K run to benefit Cleghorn

A group who has sponsored several Running for a Reason 5Ks in the past has organized a slightly-longer than 5K trail run to benefit Kennedy Cleghorn.

Cleghorn is the Pleasant Home student who is battling ovarian and thyroid cancer. All proceeds go toward her expenses.

PHS coach Kelley Garner said Wingin’ It Thru the Woods will begin at the football field, go down Falco Road about a mile, through the Conecuh National Forest, come out in the vicinity of Pleasant Home Baptist Church, then return to the school on Eagle Road, ending at the stadium. The total route is approximately 3.7 miles.

Those who register by Oct. 7 will receive a free T-shirt. Registration is $15 per person for the race, and the first-place male and first-place female runners will each receive $100.

Walkers are welcome, and those who feel 3.7 miles is too far may participate on a three-person relay team.

“We will drop off relay participants so they can switch with their teammates at appointed spots,” Garner said.

There also will be a fun run for kids, and the entry fee is $5. Kids also are guaranteed a T-shirt if registered by Oct. 7.

There also will be a silent auction of donated items, and hamburger plates will be available for sale at the football stadium after the race.
