Geneva took a 24-0 lead early and that proved too much for Florala’s B-team, despite a late comeback Tuesday night as the Wildcats fell 38-24 to the visiting Panthers.
Geneva’s Brennan Aycock connected on two touchdown passes and added a 34-yard field goal to put his team out to the 24-0 lead.
However, FHS regrouped and came back, mounting a comeback as Leroy Mitchell gained 105 yards on the night, scoring on runs of 16 and five yards.
The Wildcat defense held the Panthers on one scoring opportunity on three downs and a yard to go. FHS only allowed 14 points after the first quarter, where Lane Craig, Tayvies Collins, Jaylen Greer and Peyton Zessin all had big stops.
Luke Peters, the Wildcats freshman quarterback, had the offense under control with head coach Bubba Nall.
Peters had a 21-yard TD on Florala’s final possession after throwing an 18-yard strike to Walker Rickett. Peters added two 2-point conversion, and finished the night with 61 yards.
Greer rushed for 56 yards, and Tay Collins added 21.
Florala travels to Kinston on Tuesday.
