Preparations are under way for the 14th annual Halloween on the Square event in Andalusia.

Last year, an estimated 7,500 residents took advantage of the trick or treat event around the Court Square where more than 30 businesses distributed more than 500,000 pieces of candy.

Alan Bracewell with the city’s department of leisure services said now is the time for area businesses to make plans to participate. This year’s fee is $175, and active Chamber of Commerce members will receive a rebate, he said.

“And since merchants have done such a wonderful job in decorating their facilities for our annual Halloween on the Square, we will continue to present awards to the businesses with the best decoration,” Bracewell said.

This year’s event will be held on Thurs., Oct. 31, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Live music by Keith Williams & Second Nature from Birmingham will be on stage until 9 p.m.

Concessions will be available, and the Square will close to traffic at approximately 4:30 p.m.
