Organizers: Vendors still welcome

Downtown Opp will be abuzz later this month when the annual Oppfest hits the streets for its 14th installment, and officials say its not too late to sign up as a vendor for the event.

Presented by the City of Opp Downtown Redevelopment Authority, Oppfest is held each year on the last Saturday in October. This year’s event is slated for Oct. 26.

Tommie Norris, vice chairman of the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, said this year’s event is shaping up to be a good one.

“We expect another great turnout this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing old and new friends,” Norris said. “It’s a great feeling to see the community all come out together and enjoy themselves and our city and its traditions.”

Norris said the festival would be complete with all of the entertainment people have come to expect from Oppfest.

“All day, live entertainment is provided,” Norris said. “This year will feature the Opp Marching Band, up-and-coming artist Hunter Linzy and Opp’s own Tori Reisnour.”

Additionally, Norris said, the Ino Baptist Ensemble will perform, while this year’s headliner will be Main Ingredient, a band from Montgomery.

“Main Ingredient is an amazing cover band who reaches all the way back to the 1960s to present day,” Norris said.

Norris said festival-goers will also be treated to plenty of food vendors, arts and crafts booths, as well as a car show.

As for those who would like to become a vendor for this year’s festivities, Norris said there is a $45 fee for food vendors and a $100 fee for non-food vendors.

Norris said anyone interested in becoming a vendor may contact Liz Lindsey at (334) 818-0539.

Oppfest will be held from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. It is free to the public.
