T.R. Miller spoiled Andalusia’s senior night Tuesday as the Lady Bulldogs fell 3-0 in their last regular season volleyball match.
AHS trailed early in the first and second sets, and kept it close at the start of the third on its way to the 16-25, 14-25, 20-25 loss.
A bright spot of the night came before the varsity girls’ match began when seniors Christian Davis, Keauana Wright and manager, Halley Barnes were honored for their contributions to the program over the years.
Additionally, fans might have noticed something different for the Lady Bulldogs.
AHS volleyball coach Angie Grimes decided to go with a different rotation last night.
Grimes put Emily Theus in as an outside hitter; Rachel Dayton and Haley Harper as setters; Merikal McCaskill as a middle hitter; Stephanie Watts as the libero; Alexis Lawrence as an outside hitter; Shelby Meeks as a middle hitter; Wright as an outside hitter; and Davis as a starting setter.
Grimes said the third game was when the girls started clicking in the new formation.
“We had a lot of blocks, which was good,” Grimes said. “We just wanted to throw in something different before the area tournament starts.
“They did play well,” she said.
Meeks had five blocks; McCaskill added three blocks; Lawrence had six kills; Theus had four kills; Harper had seven assists; and Watts had three digs to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
In the first set, TRM took a 10-4 lead and never gave it up, cruising later to a 20-11 lead.
Andalusia went on a 5-0 run a little later to cut the set to 16-22, but the Lady Tigers scored three straight points to win the opener.
TRM led 19-10 and as much as 21-12 in the second set of play.
It was a back-and-forth effort in the third set as Andalusia held an early lead at 3-1.
AHS kept it to within four points late in the third set, but TRM crept away for the win.
Andalusia will travel to Monroeville to play in the Class 4A, Area 2 tournament on Tuesday.
