Covington County has been awarded $13,062 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county, said Organized Community Action Program Director Elizabeth Seay Tuesday.
“These are federal funds, made available through the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency,” Seay said. “This money is available to local agencies who have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.”
Seay said a local board will determine how the funds are to be distributed among the EF&S programs run by local service agencies in the area.
Other applicant requirements are that agencies must be private voluntary non-profits or units of government; be eligible to receive Federal funds; have an accounting system; and practice nondiscrimination. Private voluntary organization must have a voluntary board. Funding requests must be made in writing and sent to Elizabeth Seay, 23952 Highway 55 By-Pass, Andalusia, AL 36420.
Deadline for letters of interest is Nov. 1.
