Wildcats travelin’ to Fruitdale in style

Instead of taking the normal yellow bus all the way to Fruitdale, Florala will be riding in style today as the Wildcats visit the Pirates for the last game of their 2013 campaign.

FHS is coming off of a 40-22 region victory over Georgiana last week, and could end the season on a two-game win streak.

“When you throw the film on and look at Fruitdale, they’re a very competitive football team,” Wildcats head football coach Bubba Nall said. “Us and them look a lot alike. They play hard, and have a good established program. They’ll be tough to beat.”

Nall said he thinks if the team takes care of business and does what its supposed to do, then it will match up well with the Pirates.

“We’ve had a good week of preparation,” the coach said. “We, like everybody, want to go to the playoffs. I’d give anything to be playing in them this year. Well, I’ve sold my team on the fact that we’ve got a chance to end the season on a positive note.

“We have the opportunity to end the season on a two-game win streak; the seniors will have won both of their homecoming years; and we have been the Covington County small school champion. We’ve done a lot of positive things. Everybody’s excited.”

Treating the seniors like royalty will be the primary goal today, the coach said.

Many of the players haven’t traveled on a charter bus to a game, and Nall said he hopes this experience will help inspire the players to have a good year next season.

Nall said the Pirates’ quarterback and fullback are special players who are the difference-makers on the opposing team.

“I feel like our coaches have got a good game plan together,” he said. “We hope the plan will work and hope this will be a good end to a good year for us.”

Kick off tonight in Fruitdale is at 7.
