The Florala Wildcats ended their season Friday night with their second straight victory, defeating the Fruitdale Pirates 24-14 on the road.

Florala head coach Bubba Nall said he was proud of his team’s overall effort after they climbed out of a 14-8 halftime hole to notch their sixth win of the year.

“I’m so proud of our kids and proud for our seniors to be going out on a two-game winning streak,” Nall said. “There’s more we want to do. We are proud, but not pleased.”

Nall said his defense was the key in the second half. After Austin West scored twice on the ground, Nall said his defense went out and preserved the lead.

“Our defense was great,” he said. “The defense bent a little, but it didn’t break.”

Nall also credited his offense with being able to get what was necessary for the come-from-behind win.

“We got a score from Brandon Russell to make it 16-14,” he said. “They missed the field goal and Austin got in twice on the ground. We hit Ray Hall on a fade route for the 2-point conversion.”

That, Nall said, is when his defense stiffened.

“We had a 10-point lead and went out there and stopped them, and the game was over.”

With the win, the Wildcats end their season 6-4 overall, and 3-4 record in Class 1A, Region 2.
