Straughn girls win opener Thursday

Straughn’s Lady Tigers outscored St. James 21-6 in the fourth period to claim a 40-36 victory over the Lady Trojans last night for their basketball season opener in Montgomery.

Jacie Williamson led SHS with 27 points, 16 of which came in the fourth period.

“I was real pleased with the girls (Thursday night),” Lady Tigers basketball coach Scott Kinsaul said. “We didn’t get off to a good start, but they didn’t give up. They showed a lot of character on the floor.”

Straughn trailed 30-19 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Lady Tigers will play the winner of Providence Christian and Alabama Christian at 9 a.m. tomorrow to continue play in the St. James Tip Off Tournament.
