Andalusia didn’t put together four quarters Tuesday night and it cost the Bulldogs in a 50-36 loss to Elba in regular season basketball action.

The Bulldogs led only once in the game, came back in the second period to cut the game to one at 20-19 at the break and kept it close during the third period. In the fourth, the Bulldogs held the Tigers on shots with good defense, but couldn’t pull away when they needed to. EHS led 38-33 with a little more than four minutes to go and from there, AHS co

uldn’t recover.

“We haven’t played four quarters all season long,” AHS coach Richard Robertson said. “I’m proud of the ones I’ve got because they’ve given the effort. We’re going to get there.”

Elba only needed senior forwards Cobe Goosby and Nick Green, along with junior forward Denzell Thomas to do all the scoring for the Tigers.

Andalusia tried valiantly to stop Goosby from driving the paint, but the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder still scored in double figures with 18

points. Green led the way for EHS with 25 points, all scored in the second half. Thomas chipped in eight points.

It’s not going to get any easier for AHS as the Bulldogs travel to play Luverne on Tuesday. LHS should have all of their stars back after the Tigers were put out in the third round of the football playoffs.

Andalusia senior Jayden Ellison got the scoring going for the Bulldogs in the first period to give the team an early lead. Later in the second period, senior Montel Lee scored six of his 11 points to help the Bulldogs tamper Elba’s lead to one at 20-19 at halftime.

Phillip James’ put back and Lee’s drive to the basket put the game at 24-23, still Elba’s lead in the third period. AHS tied it later on on a 3-pointer by junior guard Kendarius Townsend tied it up at 28-all.

However, EHS went on a little run with the help of Goosby and Green to take a 34-29 lead going into the fourth period.

“If they grow — if they gain experience and work hard, I think there will be some good things to happen,” Robertson said.

In B-team action, Andalusia topped EHS 35-34.

Ke’Shun Townsend led AHS with 14 points. Zackari Woods and Ian Peek chipped in six each. Jamal Hourel added seven.

In girls action, the Lady Bulldogs put up too many fouls in a 51-37 loss to the Lady Tigers.

Elba’s AJ Whitfield led with 28 points.

Grace Burns and Alexis Lawrence scored 11 points each to lead AHS.
