Straughn’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams are ranked in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s first poll of the season, which was released today.
The Tigers defeated Pleasant Home twice, and Red Level, along with falling to Georgiana to claim the No. 9 spot in Class 3A.
Straughn’s girls improved to 6-1 on the season Tuesday night after a 51-20 rout over PHS.
The Lady Tigers sit at No. 3, ahead of Holly Pond — who they faced in the state semifinals last season — Mars Hill Bible, Pisgah, Trinity, Deshler, Winfield and Abbeville.
Their only loss this season was to Loachapoka to finish runner up at St. James’ tip off tournament at the start of the year. SHS has won against St. James (40-36), Red Level, Luverne and a good Brantley team.
