Straughn moved up a few notches in the boys Class 3A Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball poll, which was released today.

The Tigers came back to beat Georgiana 62-53 Tuesday night, thanks to the players getting fired up after a controversial fifth foul call on senior JD Driver.

SHS is now 7-1 and moved up to No. 6 from the ninth spot last week after defeating Excel, Andalusia and Red Level before dispatching of GHS on Monday.

Georgiana (9-3) is No. 8 in Class 1A.

Straughn will have a little time off before it plays in Red Level’s 16th annual Boys Christmas Tournament, starting next Thursday.

Straughn’s girls stayed at No. 3 in this week’s poll, but improved to 10-1 after wins over Excel, Andalusia, Red Level and Georgiana since the first poll was released.

This is the final basketball poll released by the ASWA this year, and rankings will resume the week of Jan. 6.
