Red poinsettias are one of the most recognizable symbols of the Christmas holiday.

Poinsettias have flown off the shelves at Andalusia Garden Center as local businesses and churches are getting in gear for Christmas, which is a week away.

AGC employee Pam Roquemore said a shipment came in on Monday, and the beautiful plants haven’t been at the center for long.

“A lot of them have sold,” Roquemore said.

Roquemore gave some tips on how to take care of poinsettias during the holiday season.

“They need water more often than normal,” she said. “Keep them away from drafts because the blossoms can break off.”

Additionally, Roquemore suggested keeping poinsettias away from pets.

“They’re not poisonous for pets, but they can make them sick,” she said.
