Don’t worry, Nico

Nico Johnson didn’t sleep well Monday night.

The Andalusia native and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker apparently had a lot on his mind.

He still is nursing an ankle injury and only practice one day — Friday — last week before the Chiefs played the Oakland Raiders. KC won 56-31 to improve to 11-3 on the season, and clinched a berth in the NFL playoffs with the win over the Raiders.

Maybe it was the fact that he hasn’t been able to play much on the field lately, or it’s the pressure of playing in the NFL.

Johnson tweeted his sleeplessness on Twitter early Tuesday morning, tweeting “Can’t sleep now ugh.”

Long-time Chiefs fan Leroy Cardenas, who goes by @ArrowInmyHead on Twitter, quickly responded by saying, “Rest the mind easy… The Red Nation knows soon your number will be called and when it is (called). I know you will make it count.”

Johnson then retweeted Cardenas’ reply, and by the time I saw it, I really started thinking about Andalusia’s son.

Quite often, I try to find out if Johnson played during a Sunday, looking for any defensive stats on websites that would have them.

I think he’s been playing some on special teams, and is a frequent player on the practice squad.

This season, Johnson had played in six games for the Chiefs.

He’s recorded no tackles so far.

Those who remember, Johnson didn’t sleep well the night before he was selected as the 99th overall pic in the fourth round of the draft.

I know that Johnson is using this opportunity to play in the NFL at its fullest, and will continue to do so.

Don’t worry about too much, Nico, because I agree with Cardenas.

Your number will be called one day. Just keep working because it’ll pay off in the end.
