Even Santa needs a break

School is out and many businesses have closed their doors for the Christmas holiday this week, but when it is all said and done, who will need a vacation more than Santa himself? The Star-News caught up with third-grade students at Straughn Elementary School, and asked them where they thought Santa would go for some much-needed R&R.

Samantha Peek said she thought Santa headed down to the beach for vacation – specifically, the Florida Gulf Coast. Peek’s classmate Ava Robertson offered some evidence to back up her friend’s theory.

“I saw a commercial with Santa drinking out of a coconut,” Robertson said, adding, “So, he must be at the beach.”

Avery Riley had a slightly different destination in mind for Santa.

“I think he might go hunting for deer and pigs,” Riley said.

A few others in SHS’ third-grade classes thought Santa doesn’t bother taking time off. In fact, his job is too important to take breaks for fun, they said.

“I think he watches us through the year, and he takes a break when he sleeps,” Cameron Wambles offered.

“I think he just makes the elves make lots of toys, “ Logan Arnett said.

Avery said, if Santa isn’t hunting on vacation, maybe he just takes more time to read all of the letters he gets from children around the world.

Micah Turner thought maybe Santa found a way to get the best of both worlds – reading the letters while vacationing on a beach.
