A Louisville, Ky., man is dead after an early Christmas morning house fire in Babbie.
Bobby Sorrells, 56, was found inside the burning County Road 70 home after firefighters battled the blaze at the home of Ladon “Leon” and Jenny Frazier just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Of the six inside, five members of the Frazier family made their escape from the burning home. On Thursday, Mrs. Frazier said she and the family’s adopted 3-year-old daughter, Jordan, were able to escape through a bedroom window.
“It’s just awful,” Frazier said. “We lost everything. Everything. (Sorrells) was our daughter’s fiancé. They’d come home for Christmas. I don’t know what we’re going to do.”
Crews with the Babbie and Rose Hill volunteer fire departments worked to battle the blaze; however, the home was later declared a complete loss.
The three other family members, which also included the Frazier’s grandson, were transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital where they were treated for smoke inhalation.
Preliminary reports indicate faulty wiring in the home’s kitchen as the source of the fire.
“(The house) was fat lighter, and once it caught, it was gone in no time,” Frazier said. “I don’t know how we made it out.”
The fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
