Agents buy 40 gallons of moonshine

A Union Springs man was arrested by Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control agents for possession and sale of illegal moonshine after he sold 40 gallons of moonshine to an undercover ABC agent north of Andalusia.
William “Billy” May, 48, was charged with two felony counts of transportation of prohibited liquor and beverages, two misdemeanor counts of selling prohibited liquor and beverages without a license, and one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana. The arrest occurred on Hwy. 29 north.
May initially was held in the Covington County jail on $223,000 bail. He posted bond and was released on Fri., Jan. 17.
The undercover operation began last October and was held in conjunction with the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force.
