Straughn varsity sweeps Georgiana

Eighth-ranked Straughn defeated Georgiana 52-47 in varsity boys action earlier tonight.

The Tigers led 11-6 after the first period and 27-23 at halftime before the Panthers bounced back to take a 40-38 lead going into the fourth.

SHS settled down and went on to outscore GHS 14-7 in the final 8 minutes.

Three finished in double figures for Straughn. Brice Scott led his team with 20 points. JD Driver had 12, and Tucker Lawless chipped in 10.

Georgiana’s Devin McMeans and Jacquez Payton scored 12 points each for the Panthers.

SHS improves to 16-4 after the win.

In B-team action, the Panthers won 49-44 in overtime.

Ja’Michael Stallworth led GHS with 15 points. Clarence Curry chipped 10 points.

Jonathan Driver led SHS with 24 points.

In varsity girls action, the third-ranked Lady Tigers won 55-21.
