Local business owner and former County Commissioner Gwen Kelley has announced she is seeking the Republican nomination for Covington County Revenue Commissioner in the June primary.
A native of Covington County, Kelley attended Pleasant Home School and LBW Community College. She served on the county commission from 1989-1996 and is a graduate of Auburn University’s County Commissioners College. She is also a graduate of the Alabama Appraisal Academy.
She is a longtime member of the Covington County Economic Development Commission and is active member of the City of Andalusia Tourism and Relocation committee.
She is a member of the Carolina Baptist Church and is the mother of three children, Ashley Kelley, a farmer in the Carolina Community; Kay Maddox, site controller for Huhtamaki Andalusia; and Brooke Osborn, children and families Counselor at I Found Hope Counseling Center, New Orleans.
“I greatly enjoyed serving the public as a member of the county commission and see the job of revenue commissioner as an opportunity to enter public service again,” Kelley said. “Janice Hart has done an excellent job for many years and leaves big shoes to fill. However, I believe my experience on both the commission, as well as my many years in real estate, has prepared me well to take on this challenge.”
