Straughn sweeps Goshen

Straughn’s Keith Edgar and Taylor Messick combined for a no-hitter to help lead the Tigers to a 3-0 season-opening victory over Goshen tonight.

In game two, the Tigers scored 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 18-0 win.

Edgar struck out seven batters in four innings, while Messick struck out six in three in game one.

Edgar also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two singles. Austin Worley went 2-for-3 with two singles. Gunner Wise and Brett Hudson had one hit each.

Straughn scored one run each in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

In game two, Johnny Owens went 1-for-1 with three RBIs to lead SHS. Edgar went 2-for-3 with two singles. Messick, Beau Spivey and Gage Worley had one hit each.

Four different pitchers saw action for Straughn on the mound during the night cap.

Hudson threw two innings and struck out four; Spivey struck out two in one inning; Brennan Head struck out three in one inning; and Worley struck out two in one inning of work.

SHS is back in action for a doubleheader on Sat., March 1, at Andalusia.
