Southside Baptist Church’s Amped Youth Group will hold a 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run on Sat., March 15, to raise funds for a mission trip to Belize.

Organizer Jennifer O’Neal said the race will start at city hall and follow the route used by First United Methodist Church for a race last fall.

“This fundraiser is for the annual mission trip we do with high school kids,” O’Neal said. “We have a group of 19 people going, and all of them are from our church except for Shannon Jackson. We will be doing a little bit of dental education, working with some of the girls in a cheerleading clinic, and also with a Vacation Bible School type-event. We’ll so do one construction job, probably painting,” she said, adding that the trip is set for July 5-11.

The teens in the youth group also will run with children who participate in their Fun Run, which is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sat., March 15. The Fun Run will be followed by the 5K at 9.

Registration is available on active.com, or more information is available on the group’s Facebook page, or at the church office.

Registration continues through 8:15 a.m. on race day, but pre-registration guarantees a T-shirt. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event.

Among the door prizes for participants is a set of Jaybird Freedom Stereo Bluetooth Earbuds for an adult, and a gift certificate for a bicycle for a child.
