Singer owners David and Lisa McBrayer will soon move more than 2,000 rolls of drapery and upholstery across town to a new store location.

Singer owners David and Lisa McBrayer will soon move more than 2,000 rolls of drapery and upholstery across town to a new store location.

After 39 years of business in Andalusia, the Singer store located at Covington Mall will be getting an upgrade in the next few weeks, when the shop moves to a more roomy location across town.

Owners David and Lisa McBrayer said they simply need more room to do business in a store that attracts customers from all over the south.

“We have customers that come to us from Birmingham, Huntsville, Florida and just all over,” David McBrayer said. “We carry over 2,000 rolls of drapery and upholstery, and have some of the best prices in the state. It’s worth the traveling for them.”

McBrayer said the new store, located next to the Goody’s location on the bypass, will give the shop an extra 1,000 square feet of space, but upgrades, he added, are nothing new to his operation.

“We started with two tables,” he said. “When we bought this store, we had 3,000 square feet. Eventually, we had to knock down a wall and move from one store into two. We have 6,000 square feet here. The new store will have 7,000 square feet.”

McBrayer said the extra room will be used to bring extra products and services to the customer.

“We used to hold classes, and we’re going to do that again,” he said. “We’ll teach sewing classes and classes on embroidery, the software used for monogramming and things like that.”

Lisa McBrayer said the added room also allows the shop to keep up some of the activities she believes sets it apart from other businesses.

“If you buy a sewing machine from us, we’ll teach you how to use it,” she said. “We also service all of our machines, so if you have a problem, we will be glad to work on it for you.”

The McBrayers said they expect to close up shop for their upcoming move for about a week, but are planning to be open for business in their new location in early March. The store’s phone number, 334.222.4124, will remain the same.
