2014 off to dry start … seriously

While it might have felt like there were plenty of rainy days in January and February, the weather in Covington County has actually been much drier than last year.

According to data collected by the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority, rainfall totals year to date are considerably lower.

At Yellow River on Hwy. 55, Choc-Pea recorded a total of 8.32 inches of rain this year, compared to 15.80 for the same period of time last year.

In January, there were 3.16 inches of rain recorded, compared to 3.52 inches in 2013.

In February, there were only 5.16 inches of rain recorded, compared to 12.28 inches in the same period last year.
