Raiders dominate Roadrunners Saturday

Covington Raiders coach Jeffery Williams is focused on winning right now.

The Raiders did that Saturday night in a 26-8 rout over the Louisiana Westbank Roadrunners at Channell-Lee Stadium in Opp.

The local semipro football team built a 14-0 lead in the first half and were in control early on.

Adrian Austin went 4-for-11 for 65 yards in the air and carried the ball 78 yards on 7 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Raiders.

CJ Richardson chipped in 103 yards on 14 carries, and Erwin Spears had 50 yards on 7 carries.

Kamal Simmons had three receptions for 30 yards.

On defense, Quentin Peters led the Raiders with seven tackles. Caleb Varner took down six with three sacks. Eric Howard had six tackles and one sack.

Marcus Peters and Brandon Turner had three tackles each; Ken Chambers had five pass break ups; and Deandra Ball had one interception and two tackles.

CC out gained the Roadrunners 314-144 on offense.

The Raiders will be back in action in Opp on Saturday night against the Greater New Orleans Jaguars.

The Jaguars are ranked No. 3 in the Raiders’ league. CC is No. 8.

Additionally, the Raiders will be hosting a “Beat the Hunger” event, which is something the entire league sponsors.
