Opp got off to a good start in track and field action on Thursday at T.R. Miller.

Bobcats coach Brian Dickerson said as of Friday that he didn’t have the official times from the meet, but that all did well in their respective events.

“We started off pretty strong,” Dickerson said. “I know right off hand that Orlando (Lacey) won the 100 and 200 meters.”

Tay Bonham, Derek Savage, Johnathon Hines and Lacey competed in the 4×100 meter relay. Savage won the discus event.

Bonham, Cherrelle Edwards, Reggie Thompsin and Ty Lindsey placed second in the 4×100 meter relay.

On the girls side, Opp’s Saquaya Lane finished second in the shot put.

“I was very proud of our young kids,” Dickerson said. “With Orlando coming in looking to repeat (as the state champion), it was good to see him get off to a good start..

Dickerson added that the relay events are going to be looking strong on the team.

“Things are looking up for us,” he said.

The Bobcats will be back in action in Troy on Thursday.
