Local high school students and Chamber of Commerce members got the chance to tour the state’s capitol Tuesday in Montgomery.
While there, they met with Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, who talked a little bit about the State House of Representatives and what its members’ functions in government include.
Those present raised questions on such issues as dual enrollment, the upcoming sales tax holiday, rewriting the Alabama State Constitution, failing schools and the nation’s debt, among others.
After participants got the chance to actually take a seat in the House chambers — allowed only when the house isn’t in session — the group ventured to the Senates’ viewing room.
Later in the afternoon, the group, which included about 50, got to tour the Capitol building.
