After winning the 2014 Butch Youmans Memorial Tournament on Tuesday, the Opp Bobcats did enough to find themselves on this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association baseball poll, which was released today.

The now Class 3A No. 8 Bobcats (12-8) defeated then seventh-ranked W.S. Neal 22-5, and unranked T.R. Miller 11-1, in their final two games of the round-robin-like tournament. OHS defeated Elba 9-0 on Monday night.

WSN (12-3) was ranked No. 7 in last week’s baseball poll, but fell to No. 9.

In the Class 1A baseball poll, Florala dropped one spot to No. 10. Maddison is ahead of the Wildcats at No. 9.

Andalusia (14-7) was nominated for the Class 4A poll, but wasn’t ranked.

Opp will be back in action against Pike County on Tuesday for a single game starting at 5 p.m.

Florala visits Rocky Bayou on Monday and hosts New Brockton on Tuesday.

Opp’s Lady Bobcats (13-4) stayed at No. 10 after winning Ozark’s tournament over the weekend.

FHS (6-1) was nominated in the softball poll, but wasn’t ranked.

The Lady Bobcats visit Jay, Fla., on Tuesday and then play Straughn on Thursday in area action.
