Local fashionistas take note – a new shoe and accessory store is coming to the county, and it’s a taste of retail business for which the town of River Falls has been searching.

Melissa Freeney told the Star-News Wednesday that she is in the process of opening up her business, 2 Steps Inc.

“It is only a small part of a vision that I have had for a long time,” Freeney said. “I was born and raised in Andalusia. My parents are James and Prince Ola Burgess of Rivers Falls. It’s on their property that the business will start out.”

Freeney said she has purchased a shed from KDA Enterprises Inc., which she will convert into the store.

She hopes the building will be delivered on Monday.

“As for the opening date, I’m still waiting on state license, and I have to renovate the shed once I get it,” she said. “We are very excited about this new adventure and appreciate all the love that the community has shown us. We look forward to being of great service to this community.”

River Falls Town Council Mayor Pro Tem Mattie Freeney said the business will be a welcomed thing for the small town.

“We welcome any businesses to come to our town,” she said. “We hope this is the beginning of new businesses coming to River Falls. The income from these businesses would allow us to do so much more for our town.”

Mayor Patricia Gunter echoed Mattie Freeney’s sentiments.

“I’m excited,” she said. “That sounds like it will be a good business for our town. I don’t think we’ve had anything like that before. I’m anxious for them to get open.”
