The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Relay for Life team is gearing up for a fundraising event, and the community is invited.

Randi Bozeman, chair of the LBWCC Relay team, said the LBWCC Relay for Life Color Fun Run/Walk and Kid Run will be held Sat., April 19, at the college’s nature trail on Dannelly Blvd. in Andalusia. Registration for the event will be held at 7:30 a.m., with the run beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Bozeman said early registration is available now through Fri., April 4, via forms at the LBW Student Services offices. Entry fees include: $15 for the run/walk if pre-registered, and $20 after April 4; and $10 for the kid run if pre-registered, and $15 after April 4.

Bozeman said all participants that pre-register will receive a t-shirt, which is where the “color” portion of the run comes into play.

“Our shirts for the event are white, and we are asking people who don’t get one to wear a white shirt they don’t mind getting dirty,” she said. “What we do is, we have spray bottles full of powdered paint that we will spray contestants’ shirts with. It’s not harmful and it doesn’t stain. It will wash right out. It’s just a colorful way to have fun.”

Bozeman said the event will not be timed, and early packet pickups will be available Fri., April 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Student Center on the Andalusia campus.

Prizes include: gift certificates for the first male and first female runners, and for first in the Kid Run.

Bozeman said she is hoping for a big crowd for the fundraiser’s inaugural event.

“This is the first time I’ve been the chair, and I’ve done 5Ks myself,” she said. “Donna Bass is helping me with this, and she’s also done 5Ks. It’s just a great fundraiser that also promotes fitness. Kids love it, and it’s just a great way to get outside and be healthy.”

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Covington County Relay for Life. For more information, calls may be directed to 334.881.2272.
