T.R. Miller edges Straughn, 10-8

Straughn and T.R. Miller used 11 different pitchers in their baseball game Monday night, but the Tigers of Brewton came out on the winning end in a 10-8 decision.
TRM built a 6-0 lead through four innings with three runs coming in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth, but saw their big lead disappear late.
In the fifth inning, Straughn pounded out five hits and batted around to score seven runs and take a 7-6 lead.
SHS increased its lead to 8-6 over T.R. Miller with one run in the sixth.
T.R. Miller would go on and plated four unanswered runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 10-8.
Straughn’s Keith Edgar was the pitcher of record as he went a third of an inning and allowed no hits, two runs, walked three and struck out one.
Brennan Head was the starting pitcher for Straughn and was joined on the mound by Taylor Messick, Beau Spivey, Jeffery Bush, Tucker Lawless and Lane Simon.
All of Straughn’s pitchers combined to go six innings and allowed seven hits, 10 runs, walked 10, struck out three and hit four.
At the plate, Lane Simon had two singles, Edgar had a single and two RBIs, Lawless had two doubles and a single and three RBIs, Johnny Owens added a double and one RBI, Bush had a single and one RBI, and Gage Worley had two singles.
In junior varsity action, Straughn defeated TRM 9-6.
SHS scored three runs in the top of the fifth to break a 6-6 tie.
Cory Matrullo got the win on the mound for the local Tigers.
Matrullo and Brock Hammett had one single and an RBI each to lead SHS.
