It was once said that it takes a village to raise a child, but sixth graders at Andalusia Middle School showed how much just one inspirational voice can mean with a special Friends of Education Tea held Wednesday in honor of the influential people in their lives.

One-by-one, AMS students from two sixth grade classes stood before a crowd and introduced the person they chose as their “friend of education.”

From mothers, fathers and grandparents, to coaches, Sunday school teachers and karate instructors, students presented a special certificate to people who encourage and inspire them in their everyday lives.

Following the presentation, students, guests and teachers gathered for refreshments – and a little break from class and work.

AMS officials said it is important to spotlight both the students who draw inspiration from community members, and those who play big roles in the kids’ lives.
