5 local teams to play in tune up tourney

Five local softball teams will be playing in the 2014 Elba Tune Up Tournament, which starts today at Hawkin-Williams Park in Elba.

Andalusia, Straughn, Opp, Florala and Pleasant Home will battle with Ariton, Geneva County, Luverne, GW Long, Highland Home, Elba, Samson, Charles Henderson, Geneva, Houston Academy, Wicksburg, Brantley, Slocomb, Reeltown, Goshen and Ashford for the tournament title.

The first two days are comprised of pool play games, while Saturday’s play is single elimination.

Each team is guaranteed two games of pool play. All pool play and games excluding the championship game will have a 70-minute time limit with no new inning starting after 65 minutes. Normal tiebreaker rules will apply during games.

Andalusia will start its play today at 3:30 p.m. on Field No. 2 against GW Long, and then will play Highland Home at 6:30.

On Friday, Florala plays Wicksburg, and Pleasant Home plays Geneva at 3:30 p.m. on fields 1 and 2, respectively; Opp plays Goshen at 5 p.m. on Field 2; PHS plays Houston Academy, and Straughn plays Wicksburg at 6:30 p.m. on fields 1 and 2, respectively; Florala plays Straughn, and Opp plays Ashford at 8 p.m. in fields 1 and 3, respectively.

Bracket play on Saturday begins at 9 a.m. The championship is slated for 7:30 p.m.
