Relay for Life is tonight

To date, the 16 teams participating in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraising event are just past the half-way point in their fundraising goal of $100,000. That number should increase significantly once Relay for Life gets underway at the Kiwanis Community Center tonight, Chairman Larry Brown said.
“As soon as we get started, people will be turning in more money,” Brown said. “This year, there are so many young people in our community fighting cancer, this has become personal for many people.”
The schedule follows:
• 5 p.m. – Survivor registration begins
• 6 p.m. – Opening ceremonies
• 6:30 p.m. – Survivor lap
• 7 p.m. – Survivors reception and bingo, sponsored by Covington Electric
• 8 p.m. – Moon Pie eating contest
• 9 p.m. – Luminaria ceremony and fireworks, sponsored by SEAGD and Bama Boys Fireworks
• 10 p.m. – Tug of War Contest
• 11 p.m. – Closing Ceremony
Even as the events are occurring, fundraising will continue. The Andalusia Regional Hospital team will have a dunking booth to raise more money, and there will be bouncy houses on site, as well.
This year’s teams include:
• Andalusia High School
• Andalusia Manor
• Andalusia Regional Hospital
• City of Andalusia
• Comfort Care Hospice
