Pitch in, clean up Andalusia

Andalusia’s Community Enhancement Committee has designated the coming week as spring clean up week.
Each year, the group provides trash bags for roadside litter collection. The bags are available at the Chamber of Commerce, Andalusia Police Department, Andalusia Fire Department, Farmers Market, City Hall and Johnson Park.
It seems like such an easy thing to be for, just as litter is an easy thing to be against. Yet, a drive through the community shows the need to address this problem again and again.
Just as we clean up and spruce up our homes for visitors, we need to keep our larger home clean.
Literally thousands of people pass our way en route to our beautiful Gulf Coast. The impressions they have as they pass our way affect their decisions to stop for fuel, food or shopping.
Often, we have visitors to our community who are considering locating a business here, or moving here personally. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of industrial site locators crossing locations off the list because the community didn’t look clean and neat.
Next weekend, we’ll have lots of visitors in town for the Three Notch Festival. Most every weekend, sports tournaments brings out-of-town visitors to our fair city. And the beach traffic is ever-constant.
Each of these events provide economic impact to our communities, but they can also provide long-term economic impacts if we look like a place you’d like to live or work.
Please plan now to do your part. Councilman Kennith Mount, an organizer of the event, says if we’ll just get the trash in the bags provided, city crews will pick up the bags from the roadside.
That doesn’t leave us much of an excuse. Let’s pitch in to clean up Andalusia.
