First Baptist Whatley Street will hold its Just Do It 5K walk/run beginning at the church at 8 a.m. on Sat., May 17.

Organizer Dorothy Johnson said this is the first time the church has undertaken a fundraiser of this kind, and church members are excited at the prospect.

“We are doing this for our youth department,” she said. “They are trying to do some trips and attend the youth convention, but funds were low. Lou Flores and I agreed to the footwork.

“The children are working hard, and our members are excited,” Johnson said.

Runners will start at 8, and walkers will begin at 8:30.

The route begins at the church to Kirkpatrick Park and circles back to the church, she said.

“We’ll come back to the church for fellowship, then have awards in each division,” she said.

“Our theme is commit, obey, reap eternal life,” Johnson said. “If we do all that, that is where we will end up.”

The entry fee is $25 for those 13 and over, and $15 for those 12 and under. All who pre-register by May 12 will receive a T-shirt.

The grand prize is tickets to the church’s annual pre-homecoming banquet on June 21, 2014. Divisional first prizes also will be awarded.

Pre-registration forms are available at the church, or by calling Johnson at 222-8056 or Lou Flores at 488-5096.
