Andalusia Public Library Children’s Librarian Caryl Lee Ray announced Monday the summer reading schedule.

Typically, more than 300 children participate in the summer program and this year is sure to be no different, with the science-based theme “Fizz-Boom-Read.”

The program will kick off June 5 with a 4-H reptile show and a balloon send off at 3 p.m., she said.

Ray said the McWane Science Center will present a radical reaction show geared toward science on June 12; Dairy Farms will present a live milk cow on June 19; and Amy Henderson will belly dance on June 26.

APL’s summer reading programs are free to the public.

Preschoolers can take part in the preschool story time Friday at 10:30 a.m., Ray said.

Additionally, children who have a knack for art, teens who love photography and those who enjoy Legos can talk part in the art, photography and lego contests.

The art contest is for children ages 4-6; 7-9 and 10-12. Entries are due July 12.

The teen photography contest is for ages 13-18 and entries are due July 31. Black and white or color photography up to an 8×10 will be accepted.

Lego construction contest is for ages 6-9 and 10-14. Entries are due July 12, and a minimum of 50 piece must be used.

Prizes will be awarded.
