A couple’s day out ended with a trip to jail Saturday after the pair put themselves and a toddler in their care in mortal danger, according to officials with Florala Police Department.

FPD Sgt. Paul Adams said he and officer Ryan Anderson initiated a traffic stop after an off-duty deputy with the Walton County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Department called in a report of two people acting extremely intoxicated in public.

“He was in Alabama and he called and said this couple in the Tom Thumb couldn’t hardly stand up,” Adams said. “We stopped them and got him for driving under the influence. The child wasn’t buckled in. We also found a small amount of meth in the car.”

Adams said the child’s mother, 33-year-old Cynthia Pickron, as well as the driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Thomas Jason Fuller, was arrested and booked into the Covington Count Jail, while the child was taken to the Florala Police Department until officials with the Department of Human Resources could take custody.

Pickron was charged with public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child and booked on a $38,000 bond. Fuller was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child and booked on a $47,000 bond.
