A Covington County jury on Friday convicted Danny Lee Riley, 29, of Andalusia, of sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl. The trial lasted four days.

The case was initiated in 2010 after the child victim disclosed that Riley had been molesting her. Covington County Sheriff’s Office and Covington County Department of Human Resources conducted a joint investigation. Evidence presented at trial showed that, within days of her initial disclosure, the victim consistently recounted the abuse to five different individuals.

The jury deliberated most of the day Friday before finding the man guilty of sexual abuse of a child under 12. Riley also was charged with sodomy, according to court records, but was not found guilty on that count.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Grace Jeter prosecuted the case for the state, and Riley Powell defended Riley.

Circuit Judge Ashley McKathan presided, and has set a sentencing hearing for June 19, 2014. Riley was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff of Covington County pending the sentencing hearing.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment, and will be required to comply with the requirements of the Sex Offender Notification and Registration Act upon his release from prison.
