A barn located behind a home on Hattaway Road in Opp was completely destroyed by a fire that broke out early Saturday morning.

The cause of a structure fire that destroyed a barn behind a home in Opp is still undetermined today, according to Opp Fire Chief Cory Spurlin.

Spurlin said the Opp Fire Department received the call in the early-morning hours Saturday.

“The call came in at 4:57 a.m. and by the time engine 7 got to the home on Hattaway Road, it was fully involved,” he said.

Spurlin said the structure, which was used as a cooking area, as well as for storage, was a total loss, but added the fire did not result in any injuries.

“No one was hurt and the fire was contained to that building,” he said.

Spurlin said three Opp fire engines responded to the call, as well as one engine from Onycha.

“There’s no water supply out there,” he said. “So the engine from Onycha responded and helped us shuttle water to the area.”
